School of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (SMME) is affiliated with Guizhou Institute of technology. At present SMME has 15 full-time teachers including 2 professors, 7 associate professors, 6 lecturers, 7 with doctor's degree, 8 with master's degree. practical ability and innovative spirit. The teachers’ structures of qualifications, learning edges and ages are reasonable. Which lay a good foundation for cultivating engineering talents of responsibility, refined technology, management, good innovation .
SMME has two experimental center : Material Laboratory Center and Metallurgical Laboratory Center, which has research equipments including STA, Stress Corrosion Test Apparatus, Micro-hardness Tester, Inverted Metallurgic Microscope, FTIR Spectrometer, high resolution FE-SEM, XRD, Roman Spectrometer, UV-Visible/NIR and so on.
SMME Has established good research cooperative relations with Guizhou technology innovation base and Guizhou Yonghong Aviation Machinery Co., Ltd. and built two practice bases . The school has a provincial Collaborative Innovation Center "Guizhou Province special functional materials 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center", has a test center, aluminum alloy materials technology research institute, photoelectric functional materials research institute, new energy materials and Devices Research Institute.
Materials and metallurgical is the foundation of the national economy and one of the pillar industries, there are broad prospects for development, SMME is adaptable actively to the needs of Guizhou’s economic and social development. With the basic ideas ‘tamping foundation, enhancing the capacity, guarantying the quality, nurturing characteristics, paying attention to efficiency, collaborative innovation’ SMME has made a long-term planning development strategy and proposed the practical goal. Relying on the collaborative innovation center, technical consultation, professional and technical personnel training can be done in the field of technology of high strength aluminum alloy research，photoelectric functional materials and new energy materials and devices. And using collaborative center detection equipment, the relevant materials testing and analysis can be undertaken. SMME strives to supply services for the transformation and development of Guizhou.
